Comics and Graphic Novels

The graphic novel—slowly, steadily, surely, sometimes quietly, and often noisily—has entered the
mainstream. It does so with a remarkable freedom to dare, to innovate, to entertain, and to reach
People in ways that traditional books do not. “Like picture books for children
Comics and graphic novels offer their readers a wonderfully enriching and stimulating ‘twofer’ experience, because they contain both text and images, says Book list columnist Michael Cart. In the best graphic novels words and pictures work together in a kind of harmonious fusion that makes the whole greater than the sum of its individual parts.” First Second Books is dedicated to publishing graphic novels that do just that.

A graphic novel is a book made up of comic’s content. Although the word “novel” normally refers to long fictional works, the term Comics and graphic novels is applied broadly, and includes fiction, non-fiction, and anthologized work. It is distinguished from the term “comic book”, which is used for comic’s periodicals.
The term is not strictly defined, though one broad dictionary definition is “a fictional story that is presented in comic-strip format and presented as a book.
A graphic novel is a book made up of words and pictures: typically, in a graphic novel, the pictures
Are arranged on the page in sequential panels, while the words are presented in speech bubbles (for
Dialogue) or text boxes (for narration), though this may not always be the case. ‘Graphic novel ‘Word that describes a medium, not a genre: graphic novels can be histories (like George O’Connor’s Journey into Mohawk Country fantasies (like Joann Sfar’s Vampire Loves) or anything in between. Comics and Graphic novels may be the latest hot thing, but though trends come and go, good writers and artists—and good books—stay.

Study Books

Study Books or study strategies are approaches applied to learning. They are generally critical to success in school, College, considered essential for acquiring good grades, and useful for learning throughout one’s life.
The devotion of time and attention to acquiring knowledge on an academic subject, esp. by means of books.

Learning involves many activities: managing your time, taking notes, reading books, listening to lectures, memorizing, having discussions, and writing tests. We’ll cover each of these activities individually, and teach you to do them more effectively. Feel free to learn the sections in any order that makes sense to you.

Books have a lot more competition these days, and a new study from that digital fun is starting to crowd out the habits of occasional readers. Specifically, “the proportion of occasional and non-readers among children aged 0-17 rising to 28%, up from 20% in 2012,” reads a summary of the report, presented at The Bookseller Children Conference.
Study skills are discrete techniques that can be learned by books, usually in a short time, and applied to all or most fields of study. Study Books has a power to learn skills .They must therefore be distinguished from strategies that are specific to a particular field of study.

Giraldo the Giraffe

Image
Healthy eating and exercise are two things that don’t gel with children one bit! Give your children a subtle insight in to the benefits of being healthy with Geraldo the Giraffe. This story ishighly fun-loving and is sure to grab the kids’ attention. It tells the story of an extremely hungry giraffe, made worse by its terribly long neck – meaning it takes forever for the food to get to his stomach. He’s fed up of eating leaves, so with the help of a cookery book, he learns how to cook. Being the hungry giraffe he is, he eats far too much and is unable to stand up on his legs. After much advice and guidance from a zoo keeper (and a lot of mockery from the other giraffes), he manages to control his weight and eat sensibly without having to skip a tasty meal!
Children will be delighted by this funny story and in the process be inspired to better their eating habits and go out and play a little more.

Leon the Lion

Image
Leon the Lion is another great story in the Robin’s Toys series. A bit like Gavin the Gorilla, it touches on the effects of being judgmental to others. Not being able to get a job because of the way he looks, Leon the Lion struggles to find happiness in life. He loves to write poetry, but he’s far too scary looking for the jobs that he wants.
Children will be able to follow Leons’ journey as he finds the perfect job and finds happiness in doing so.It will encourage children to believe in themselves and their abilities, and to not give up on what they truly want to do. Furthermore, it will again teach children the importance of not being so quick to judge – you never know how it can affect another person’s life.

Taffy the Rabbit

Image
The ability to save money and to work as a team to earn rewards is something which happens with great difficulty. Taffy the Rabbit does a great job in illustrating this ability and how using your resources will get you further than you think.
Taffy’s dream is to go and see the Wales and England rugby game, but he doesn’t have enough carrots to buy the tickets. With the help of all his team mates, they use their resources and collect enough carrots to buy them all tickets to see the game! This story is a brilliant way to encourage kids to not only work together as a team, but to think outside the box to get what you want.

Roger the Reindeer

rindeerr
Roger the Reindeer is a fantastically tactful story about the importance of literacy. Parents will be thrilled to bits with the positive outcomes of this story. The book will implicitly make children aware of the necessity of being able to read and write in everyday life.
Roger is a lovable and independent character who gets in to quite a muddle because of his inability to read and write properly. A lot of children have this same problem and will be able to relate well with a story as such. Therefore this story is the perfect way to get them to concentrate and give them incentive to do well in school.

Gavin the Gorilla and Snuffles

Image
Judgments and friendships make Gavin the Gorilla and Snuffles the perfect duo to team up and teach kids the meaning behind, ‘never judge a book by its cover.’  Society seems to revolve around judgments, and children tend to end up following these customs. With this book, parents can lightly inform kids of the cruelty behind being judgmental.
On one hand, we have the idea of snuffles, a seemingly cute looking dog, coming to a Gorillas rescue. And on the other hand, we have the concept of bullying and loneliness, and how they tie in with being judgmental.  Therefore, this book can help children on either side of the situation – teaching kids not to be judgmental, and further teaching judged children that they should always carry on being who they are, because their worth will be recognized sooner or later.

Donkey Hoo Tee

Image
Donkey Hoo-Tee tells an excellent story which should be read by all children. Helping others is a quality that seems to have been forgotten in this day and age, especially within children. Parents should definitely encourage their child to read this story – it will leave them thinking about their friendships and lifestyles for sure.
Donkey Hoo-Tee is a hard working Donkey who just wants to retire in peace. And when he finally gets that chance, he is unable to take it. But with his honesty and the help of a friend, they are able to make that chance happen and give them both a comfortable life. Robin’s story, as well as Donkey Hoo-Tee’s, perfectly interweaves in a way that will educate children on the benefits of hard work and helping others. A heart-warming story that is sure to be a hit with the kids!

Clarence the Camel : Robins Toy Childrens Book

As much as we want our kids to be the best at everything, you can’t always have this. And sometimes children are under the impression that they are better than other children.  Clarence the Camel perfectly depicts this particular situation with a loving tale about a camel that gets ahead of himself and ends up feeling humiliated.
If you want to subtly teach your child that their skills and abilities should not be made a show of, then this is the perfect book! It will encourage them to think before showing off, and that that even if they are not the best at what they want to do, their skills will always shine in other areas of their lives.
